One World, One Heart Giveaway

Photo

Welcome! This event created by a whimsical bohemian helps form connections between blogs all over the world all of whom are offering wonderful assorted giveaways. Click on the image above for the full listing of participants.

I am offering to a randomly selected commenter, the following one-a-kind necklace.

I have been making colorful sculptures and vessels with stiffen fibers, and was interested in the challenge of translating the textures and colors of this medium into wearable art. I started with two types of white fiber roving, flax and soy, each of which offers different qualities. The fibers were then saturated in glue and the form inherent in the twisting of the fibers teased out. I refined the shape, added layers of watercolor washes and backed the piece with micro suede fabric for comfort and stability.

There are nestled beads and gemstone chips in the curves and ridges of the fibers and a dyed green pearl at the apex. A delicate citrine and seed bead chain and simple clasp complete the piece. With the translucent beads and airy cutouts balanced by the rich colors and textures I think this piece alights nicely between earthy and ethereal.

From clasp to point the necklace is about 9.5 inches and accentuates the curve of the collarbone.

To enter to win this piece, you just need to comment on this entry. Make sure your comment links back to a way to contact you or include your email. The winner will be selected by random number generation on February 15th so be sure to comment by noon (Pacific Standard Time). And then this necklace will be taking its own magic carpet ride via mail to its new local.

p.s. Were you expecting yarn? Understandable. Well, I do dye yarn but I also see my art as a way of inspiring yarns, as is stories. Pieces that really work I think, draw you in and make you wonder at the subtle and sometimes profound stories they tell.

* Congratulations to the winner of this giveaway, Sharon of SharDon Exclusives!
